Gold Laced Wyandotte

Looks- the attractive Wyandotte is known for its curvy body, which is short and deep with a full breast. The saddle is wide and sweeps up to a fairly upright tail. The birds head is broad, with curved yellow or horn coloured beak, prominent red, orange or bay coloured eyes, a bright red rose comb, oblong earlobes and average sized wattles. The neck is of medium length too; with the thighs well-feathered but clean, preferably yellow shanks (this yellow can become paler on laying hens)

Personality- the Wyandottes character is well suited to the domestic environment. They are generally calm, friendly birds, which are equally happy foraging or living in confinement.

Eggs- The Wyandotte is a great layer, a good hen should produce190 eggs in her first year, dropping to 170 in the second.

Day-to-Day- Looking after Wyandottes should be a straight forward business. It is a hardy breed, which is robust and will take temperature extremes in its stride. The hens make good mothers. Be careful not to overfeed Wyandottes as they have a tendency to put on excess weight.
